1972 Porsche 911S Targa,
Engine number - 6321802
Optional Factory Equipment:
History: This fine, mileage documented and numbers matching 1972S Targa is one of 989 produced in 1972. This particular car was produced in May 1972, imported by Porsche’s previous importer Volkswagen of America through New Orleans and delivered to a physician living in Memphis Tennessee who owned and cared for it from new until his passing in 1989.
The second and third owners were also from Memphis and were both associated with Memphis Motor Works. During their ownership, the car saw little use but was restored, repainted in the original color and had its engine professionally rebuilt at that facility.
In 2000, the car was sold to another physician in Maryland who, while meticulous in its care and maintenance, used it only sparingly before selling it to its current owner in 2004.
The current owner, who lives in New Hampshire, owns a number of early 70’s Porsches and has decided to place this wonderful example on the market because he also has given the car little use. During his 5 year stewardship, everything that was found wanting in terms of mechanical needs, has been addressed.
Items repaired/replaced during the last 5 years and 500 miles:
Condition: The car needs very little to make it the perfect “S”. While the paint and mechanicals are perfect and there is absolutely no rust to be found in the chassis, some details are lacking and some items need to be refurbished. None of them negatively impact the operation of the car and are purely cosmetic in nature.
- There is no spare wheel/tire or tool kit.
Price: This well sorted, rare and stunning S Targa is being offered at $48,500 OBRO and is subject to a complete and thorough inspection by you, or the mechanic of your choice. It will come with all but the original ownership records, invoices, owner’s manual and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
Sellers Commentary: Like the current owner, I have personally owned, labored over and coveted many early 911’s. As a result, I know a good and rare one when I see it. This particular “S” is very fine example, rust free and almost completely original. All of the “little” mechanical afterthoughts that turn it into a wonderful and dependable driver have been accomplished.
Those of you that have owned or sought after a nice early “S” understand what has happened to prices on the plus side during the last 5+ years. As a result, we believe that there are many cars being offered that are not honest and are carrying higher prices than are deserved, given current economic conditions. This vehicle is not one of those. Additional detailed photos are available upon request.
