1978 Porsche Targa, Drivers Education Car, We have personally known this car since the early 90’s and watched its development into a fun and well sorted track car during that time by 2 fastidious owner/friends. Priorities always change over time. The current owner has children entering college and a very active career. With little time to enjoy the car and other places to place its value, the time has reluctantly come to pass this very well prepared track car on to a new owner.
The first owner had the stock 3.0 liter rebuilt, the car expertly repainted in its current livery (Mopar Cloisonné Blue), added the roll cage, race seats and fire extinguisher, along with new carpeting and door panels. The current and second owner has actively used the car to sharpen his driving skills when time permitted over the last 7 years. One of the things he enjoyed beyond his days at the track, was the fact that while containing a long list of safety equipment, it is still fully registered and inspected and can be driven to and from the track.
The engine rebuild was done by European Performance Engineering (EPE) in early ’01 at about 124,000 miles and has performed flawlessly for the last 16,000 miles with no oil leaks and very favorable compression and leak-down readings. The transmission was freshly rebuilt at 137K in January ’07. While the clutch was inspected, it did not require replacement. While the engine and transmission were out, EPE installed a rear RSR coil-over suspension package, re-valved the shocks to suit the new springs, fabricated upper spring perches, installed a solid front strut mount with cross brace and replaced the sway bar bushings and complete drop link assembly. Following the work, the car was realigned and corner balanced. The end result of the suspension conversion is a car that handles and corners as though on rails and is totally predictable.
It is being offered with the 17” Cup wheels and Kumo’s that are pictured and a second set of honeycomb Kinesis with fresh (5 laps) Michelin Sport Pilot Cup tires. The car comes with every invoice since May ’02 along with some original body parts and miscellaneous spares for a fraction of its value, at an asking price of $14,000. A complete inspection by the mechanic of your choice is welcomed. |
